2017-18 Federal Budget

The 2017 – 18 Federal Budget has been handed down by the Treasurer, with the full set of Budget papers available at budget.gov.au

The changes relating to superannuation in this year’s Budget include:

  • First Home super Saver Scheme

    The Government will help Australians boost their savings for their first home by allowing them to build a deposit inside superannuation. More information is available in the Budget Fact Sheet 1.4 - First Home Super Saver Scheme

  • Reducing barriers to downsizing

    The Government will encourage some older people to downsize form homes that no longer meet their needs and free up housing stock for young families starting out. Older Australians will be provided with greater flexibility to contribute the proceeds of the sale of their home into superannuation, reducing a current disincentive to downsizing.
