Financial advice

Advice you can trust

CSS members have access to financial advice through Industry Fund Services (IFS).

IFS is the only provider with whom CSC (your trustee) has partnered to provide a personal and trusted financial advice service to CSS members. IFS planners are trained to be experts in CSS. Don’t risk getting the wrong advice. Get advice you can trust.

Get financial advice

Do you need financial advice on one or more of the following matters?

  • age retirement and redundancy options for your CSS benefit
  • deferred benefit ‘54/11’ and age retirement options
  • maximising your super
  • tax effective strategies to build wealth
  • transition to retirement
  • retirement income stream options
  • investments—inside and outside of superannuation
  • life and income protection insurance
  • estate planning.

Advice, in your best interest

‘Fee for service’ personal financial advice to help build, manage and protect your wealth (not just your super) is available to all CSS members and partners.

Advice in your best interest

Advice is provided by financial planners from Industry Fund Services (IFS). Your trustee, Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation, has partnered with IFS because:

  • advice is provided solely in your best interest
  • there are no obligations, commissions or hidden fees
  • IFS planners are trained to be experts in your scheme.

Advice can be specific to your own needs, circumstances and goals. Your financial planner will be a licensed representative of IFS, which is responsible for the financial advice you receive.

IFS planners are based in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane.

If you don’t live in or near one of these cites, see the on the road advice schedule for 2016. There may be a location and date convenient for you.

Alternatively, your first appointment can be over the phone.

Fee for service, affordable advice

Your initial advice appointment will cost $185. No personal advice is provided in this appointment, although you may receive general advice.

Once you discuss your financial situation and goals with your planner, you’ll get a quote detailing the type and cost of the personal advice that may help you.

As a guide, the cost for advice ranges from $680 to $5,450 depending on complexity.  The average cost for comprehensive advice is around $3,500.

Remember, you only pay for the advice you want. You know the exact cost beforehand and will never have to pay any commissions or hidden fees. The cost is based on the time it will take to create your plan, including the preparation of a statement of advice.

Fees, terms and conditions that apply are detailed in the IFS Financial Services Guide, available directly from IFS.

Ongoing advice service

Our financial advice partner IFS also offer an Ongoing Advice Service. Access annual or bi-annual (twice a year) financial reviews to make sure you’re achieving your financial goals. For more information, see Ongoing advice service.

Why not start by attending a free workshop?

Financial Planning for Retirement
Presented by Industry Fund Services (IFS)

This 90 minute practical workshop is an ideal first step towards financial planning for your retirement if you haven't yet sought advice from Industry Fund Services.

What people are saying

"Very good workshop, only wish I had attended it years ago”
- John (PSS Member)

"Allowing for questions was terrific. The small group was an advantage for the participants”
- Sally (CSS Member)

"Whilst I rarely give such enthusiastic feedback, in this instance it was deserved. I found the workshop convenient and informative. I have been neglectful of my super and financial future however, rather than depressing me, the workshop has inspired me to act assertively in my own interests from now on. Even though it was only last night, I have already found and consolidated previously lost super accounts and also investigated some of the growth strategies discussed. Very satisfied. Have been encouraging all my colleagues to attend the next one".
- Kylie Butler (PSS Member)
